Give It Away
Ever since the church was born in the first century (read about it in the Book of Acts) God has been moving on the earth. EVERY nation and tribe, city, and village is being impacted by the power of the Gospel. The disciples of Christ are exhorted by every single New Testament writer to spread the word! Don’t kid yourself, this is NOT just a gentle suggestion to do something ‘when you get a minute.’ Live it! Breathe it! Wear it like a t-shirt, a badge, or a hat!
We are living in the most dynamic time in history. Each of us have access to the technology to reach out across the entire world to gather, nurture, encourage and tell others about the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And the time is NOW for believers to quit the stands and stop being ‘fans’ of the ministry of others. There are thousands of Christians out there in services, conferences, bible studies, community groups, theaters, and stadiums ‘learning’ about their faith and ‘how-to’ build a better believer. That is great if it motivates you to actually do something other than simply better your own understanding. But know this: Jesus calls each of us to follow Him and DISCIPLE OTHERS. Yes, it is important to know the word and handle that sword appropriately (Ephesians 6:17) but you can’t allow yourself to get trapped in the ever-learning loop “…always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth” Timothy 3:7. Knowledge doesn’t bring about real change – the Pharisees were guilty of this error – as they loved the law but knew not the heart of Christ. Cultural Christianity gives only lip-service to the terms of Jesus. .”...thus you cancel the word of God for the sake of your tradition,” Matthew 15:6.
Want to know the secret? The most powerful and influential tool we have on our belt is our personal testimony. It is the undeniable, individual, extraordinary details of how Jesus changed our lives that makes an impact on others. You can cite Scripture that they have no grid for, you can quote great Christian leaders and authors with whom they have no personal connection, and you can introduce them to your pastor so he can tell them everything you think you don’t know. But the cold, hard, no kidding, drop-dead unfailing truth is that we are but ordinary people who have been touched by an extraordinary God and we want others to be touched by Him too. Your testimony is YOUR power to disciple others.
There is a truth that our fellow human beings need to be told. God is real. He loves us and wants to be in fellowship with us. He wrapped Himself in mortal flesh and came to live among us, as one of us, so He could show us the way. There is a life after this one and we get to choose whether we want to live it with Him or not. And then He let His own people crucify Him so that He could rise from that grave to prove this – so we could be reconciled with our Creator. Succinct. Simple. Yours to share with others.
